Fall is finally here, and October is only a few days away. You know what that means? It’s Fall Car Care Month!  We think of apple spice, pumpkins and colorful leaves.  But, what about your car? Did you know that fall is the perfect time for preventative maintenance? By maintaining your car regularly, your repair expenses are minimized, and you can feel safe and secure in knowing you can count on your vehicle in a variety of circumstances and conditions.

Fall Car Care Considerations

Take advantage of this time between the busy summer months and the winter holidays to make sure your car is in tip top shape. First, check your owner’s manual for the manufacturer’s recommended service schedules.  Then, check out these other maintenance items to get your car winter ready.

Tires

Proper tire maintenance is one of the best ways you can keep your vehicle performing well, driving smoothly, and feeling safe on the roads.  Check your tires’ tread for wearing, cupping, cuts and nicks.  Worn out tires can be very dangerous. Additionally, be sure to check the tire pressure since the pressure drops when the outside temperatures do the same.  Tire rotation and wheel alignment are also recommended for improving handling, extending tire life, and getting better gas mileage.

Battery Service

The summer heat is very hard on your battery, especially here in Arizona.  Regardless of the weather, no car battery lasts forever but high heat shortens battery life significantly.  Inspect for corrosion and make sure the connections are tight.  If you are having problems with your battery, schedule battery service so we can evaluate its life, make sure it’s properly installed, and check for leaks.

Windshield Wipers

Summer heat can also damage your windshield wipers. Make sure your wiper blades are not cracked or torn as they won’t work as well and can leave streaks across your windshield.  It is also a good idea to check your windshield wiper fluid and top off if necessary.

Brakes

Don’t take your brakes for granted!  We recommend scheduling a brake inspection at least once every six months.  Of course, you should have one even sooner if you notice a grinding noise, squealing, shaking or vibration.

Oil Changes

Your vehicle’s oil needs to be refreshed on a consistent basis to keep the engine running well.  At We-Fix-It Auto Repair, we don’t just change your oil.  We top off all liquids and lubricate the chassis.  But, it doesn’t end there.  With every oil change, we do a comprehensive 32-point safety inspection- the perfect way to tackle your Fall Car Care Month maintenance items!
